★★★★☆

Eulogy is just plain great! I’ve seen it quite a few times. If you are in the mood to laugh at a totally dysfunctional family, this is the movie to watch. There is just so much going on it is really impossible to explain. There needs to be a new word beyond dysfunctional to describe this family.

The basic premise behind the movie is that all these dysfunctional children are old enough to have families of their own when they are called home for their father’s funeral. One of them is tasked with writing the Eulogy but none of them know anything about their father. Oh yes, they also have to stay in the house for a week to get any inheritance that might be theirs.

You can basically ignore the previous paragraph. That is simply the vehicle to trap them together so you buy the premise and it isn’t an expensive thing to buy. The entire movie is really them working out childhood issues and the stupid stuff they currently get into. It is so funny. What’s good is a year after you’ve watched it the movie is just as funny. It doesn’t appear to have any point in time pranks or references which have the shelf life of a gallon of milk.

The only names I recognized were Zooey Deschanel, Ray Romano, and Hank Azaria. All do excellent jobs! For those who don’t recognize Hank Azaria, he was excellent in Herman’s Head.
