Stories in the Music

I think I’m safe in saying that nearly everyone listens to music and among those who do, most enjoy music with lyrics as much as they do the pure sounds of an instrumental piece. As a writer I enjoy a good yarn, whether in the form of a poem, short story, or novel. Music is prevalent in every culture throughout the world. For example, in Turkish, the verb to sing – şarkı söylemek translates into English as:  tell song or sing say. Not long ago I adopted the practice of…

Why a New Car Costs So Much

Why a new car costs so much is one of the worst kept secrets in the automotive industry. It ain’t the unions, it’s the management. There have been articles in obscure or industry specific locations of the Web covering this topic. They usually title the article something like “Where the World’s Unsold Cars Go to Die.” Not exactly the type of headline topping search term lists. Basically, rather than limit production to what will actually sell or do anything which remotely resembles management, today’s auto manufacturers over produce, jack up…

Stories and Maps

As an avid reader of fiction, I enjoy a globetrotting adventure with detailed place descriptions and lots of action.  When I’m fortunate enough to be transported while reading such a novel, I travel in the shoes of the main character imagining myself acting in that role.  Of course it always makes things more interesting when the character I imagine myself as possesses several of the attributes of Jason Bourne of the Ludlum novels.  Yes it is very cool to be multi-lingual, fluent in languages ranging from Mandarin to Farsi while at…

Did AARP Get Belize Wrong?

It was not that long ago AARP listed Belize as one of the best places to retire abroad. They made it sound so inviting. Fast track to citizenship and the wonderful description. Heck, not long after that Leonardo Dicaprio bought an island there. I have personally spoken with people in the north of 50 crowd who were actively looking at retiring in Belize. Featured image by hunterfoy from Pixabay Some months ago, back when LinkedIn still had a microscopic bit of relevance in the known universe, I ran into a journalist/author/investigative reporter.  When…

Adding Ringtones to Kyocera DuraXV

Adding ringtones to your Kyocera DuraXV is rather straight forward . . . once you find the correct steps to follow. My crummy Convoy phone started to have problems most annoying. Any time one of my alarms would go off and I would dismiss it, the keypad would lock, all except for power down button. This has been happening for weeks. Yesterday I went to a Verizon store and they tried to research the problem. No help. They flashed the phone back to factory original, but we didn’t waste a…

Welcome to the Blog

Welcome to the blog for Interesting Authors! From time to time the authors in our little group will give you an opportunity to climb inside of their mind, at least, where their mind currently is, and see what’s going on in there. BE WARNED! A writer’s mind is a dangerous place. We may not really know where we left it or what it is doing. We just know that it is somewhere, doing something that may well be translated to the written page. Think of it as the infamous HL…

Review – Dallas Buyers Club

★★★★★ Dallas Buyers Club is a shockingly well done movie. I would put it on par with Philadelphia staring Tom Hanks. Dallas Buyers Club is also incredibly timely as the news is littered with drug company CEOs dramatically increasing drug prices while manipulating clinical trials to get drugs approved. If you pay attention you get to see all of that here. AZT was a chemotherapy drug and the manufacturer was both paying the hospital and coercing the trial. It also took great pains to point out a nasty flaw in…
