Review — Official Secrets

★★★☆☆ Official Secrets has a lot of people giving it pretty high reviews, but I’m not. The movie had the potential to be so much more. Based on a true story. Real life spy/espionage. Governmental abuse of power. This had the potential to be way better than Smiley’s People. What’s Wrong with Official Secrets I had prepared myself for the “vibrant shades of beige” that tends to be British drama. I’ve watched Smiley’s People quite a few times after all. The lack of action British spy story can be done…

Review — Bad Company (1995)

★★★★☆ Bad Company (1995) was one of those movies I just had to put on my rental list again. Saw it when it first came out years ago and really liked it. I Wanted to see if it stood the test of time. It does. Gist of the story It all starts with the CIA and their use of “private companies” for black bag/dirty deeds operations. Laurence Fishburne plays a CIA operative that got drummed out of the CIA for supposedly not delivering $50,000 in gold to someone the CIA…

Review — Motherless Brooklyn

★★★★★ Motherless Brooklyn is one of those classic movies that is so well done you cannot help but give it five stars. Edward Norton rules the screen without even trying. This movie is done in the style and pretty much the era of Once Upon a Time in America. Thankfully Motherless Brooklyn also provides the same quality of entertainment. You really are watching some of Hollywood’s finest work with this movie. Tourette’s Syndrome Tourette’s Syndrome is a central theme in the story. How Edward Norton was able to pull that…

Review — Hard Kill

★★★☆☆ Hard Kill is one of the 22 movies Bruce Willis made from 2019 through 2022. Most of these, including Hard Kill were straight to video. There was a lot of speculation about why such a sought after star would dive into the B-movie straight to video market. We now all know that Bruce has been diagnosed with Aphasia and has to retire from acting due to the degenerative nature of the disease. These B-movies are a last hurrah trying to pass the torch to current unknowns. I find that…

Review – Die Hard

★★★★☆ Yes, I saw Die Hard in the theater during its original run and my dating days. Bruce Willis was really at the peak of his game then. He was coming off the success of Moonlighting. Being young and a good looking kind of every-man, he had it all. He married the smoking hot Demi Moore the year before. Yeah, pretty much every straight guy on the planet was envious. Now that Bruce Willis has been diagnosed with aphasia, you will see a lot more channels running the Die Hard…

Review – Momentum

★★★★☆ Olga Kurylenko gives a stellar performance in Momentum. James Purefoy and the rest of the cast really help sell this film as well. Honestly Olga is becoming one of my favorite actors. I first encountered her in Hitman (which I own a copy of) and you’ve also seen me write about her in my review of Centurion. In case you are wondering where you saw James Purefoy before, he was Mark Anthony in Rome and he plays Philippe de Clermont in A Discovery of Witches. Morgan Freeman also has…

The Illegitimate Supreme Court

With the overturning of Roe v Wade, the United States Supreme Court has announced its illegitimacy to the world. It’s not just U.S. citizens and U.S. media saying that. Every legitimate news organization that practices actual journalism is running articles like this one in The Guardian. You overthrow a democracy by stacking the courts with people who enforce political or religious belief, completely ignoring the law. What we now have is Putin’s Kangaroo Court. It enforces the will of whatever it believes to be “the Supreme Leader” disregarding both precedent…
