“Why would they have you all of you have been scheduled for a job together…” Pretty Little Thing began then trailed off.
“They were to be my retirement party” I said completing her thought. “Most likely there is a system you do not yet know about. A method of communication and scheduling between people like your uncle and the board. Rachel probably knows all about it. If you are ever given access you will probably find someone higher up sanctioned all of this.”
“When she reaches out to you on your burner, try to arrange a meet to ask about it and see if she knows about such a thing being sanctioned” Slim inserted.
“More importantly” I continued. “We need to know if this was just your uncle and one board member or if the board took a full vote on this action.” The Acrobats nodded in agreement. Even Giant caught on to where this was going.
“I need you to do three more things before you clean your prints. Actually two. First I need you to go through that system and see what has been sent to Henry over the past week. I assume our new assignment has a meet location?”
She nodded yes to my question.
“Good. Consolidate all of my accounts which don’t have a brokerage account tied to them and are more than ten years old into the six oldest identities which still have brokerage accounts since some of those old firms went bust. Finally, I need you to arrange for a cash drop for all of us, including Henry, at that meet location. A hundred thousand each. If their accounts cannot stand it, take it from my fresher accounts. It’s okay to have a few hundreds in there because that will be a lot to carry.”
“You can drop close to half a million without a moment’s hesitation?” asked Giant in disbelief.
“Thirty years of bank and brokerage accounts” I responded. “I was a big believer in dividend paying stocks and slow growth mutual funds with automatic dividend re-investment. Sure, I bought or shorted a few high fliers if doing a job gave me insight into their movements, but, for the most part, I own an awful lot of ‘old widows’ stocks. Consistent and steadily increasing dividend histories. Whenever I had the chance I checked in and re-invested the dividends. Somewhere, I have some safety deposit boxes full of U.S. savings bonds which have long since matured.”
“You lookin’ to jump into a deep dark hidey hole?” queried Stretch.
“Need the option. If the whole board was in on this, you need options too. If her uncle was off-book, with or without a board member behind him this ends well for all. If not, you lot are just as fucked as me. Henry’s info please.”
“Oh, shit, yes” uttered Pretty Little Thing as she ran over to the computer. It was followed by more clicking and typing. “Nothing in assignments or responses to field reports” she said.
“What about his company phone call history?” I asked.
“That phone hasn’t been used since before your last job” she said.
“Pretty much what I expected” I responded.
“What?” uttered Giant.
