The Hunting Party is probably the best movie you’ve never heard of. It appears Richard Gere has been making Indie type films which go straight to DVD. Thanks to my monthly rental subscription I’m actually watching a lot more Indie movies.

The Hunting Party is yet another true story about a journalist who hit rock bottom covering wars all over the world. When he had his meltdown on camera and became fodder for journalist programs in every college around the world he was in Bosnia. The story starts up back in Bosnia, it goes places you don’t see coming, and ends with the most pointed critique of why nobody can find so many of the world’s greatest despots you will ever see.

One of the reasons I prefer DVD by mail instead of streaming is finding gems like this movie. I find streaming people don’t experiment much. They want to know something about a movie and they want that something to match their current mood.

With a by mail rental service I will put totally unknown things in my queue and months later they show up. If I’m not in the mood to experiment they lay there beside the television until I’m in an experimental mood. Sometimes the experiments pay off in diamonds. The Hunting Party was one of those times!

Put this movie at the top of your viewing list.
