Review – Survivor

Survivor cover

★★★★☆

Survivor allows the entire cast to shine.

You hear Hollywood types talk about “bankable actors” and this movie was the proof of that concept for me. I knew nothing about Survivor when I put it on my rental list. I knew it had Pierce Brosnan, Roger Rees, and Milla Jovovich so I added it. Glad I did!

Many of you probably don’t know the name Roger Rees. Sadly he left us in 2015. I absolutely loved his recurring role on “The West Wing.” His movie career started in 1975 and includes some memorable appearances on both television, film and documentary. We are a richer species because he graced us with his presence.

Can anyone who likes science fiction/action movies ever say enough good things about Milla Jovovich. Yes, the name may be tough to say, but “Resident Evil” and “Ultraviolet” are absolute mainstays of the genre. Those who cater more toward swashbuckling romance should catch her in “The Three Musketeers.”

I must confess to being a fan of Pierce Brosnan since “Remington Steele” graced the television. Even as a little kid I could tell he oozed style. It was a nice departure to see him play a bad guy who was a bad guy from the start of the film. Even in this film he still oozed style.

The pleasant surprise was Frances de la Tour. Yes, another name difficult for Americans to say, but her roles in “Harry Potter” and “The History Boys” should bring her to mind. She has both an unmistakable look and voice. She is one of those rare actors who can disappear so completely into a role you barely notice the actor because the character is so complete.

Survivor is well worth owning, not just renting.
