I wish I knew why I didn’t enjoy Rocketman. I grew up with Elton John music. He was and still is one of the most bankable flamboyant acts ever. He certainly deserves to be call Sir Elton John.
Perhaps it is because this biopic was a biopic being done in the style of La La Land (a movie I chose never to see based on its previews?)
Perhaps it is because every studio now has to have their own rock biopic and it’s getting really (&)(*&)ing old just like kids videos asking celebrities to be prom dates? Bohemian Rhapsody set the bar damned high. I suspect this is really it. Given the fact they were covering Elton John; I expected this to be a biopic done in the style and quality of Bohemian Rhapsody.
Perhaps my being a straight man caused me to be turned off by the gay scenes? If that truly is the case it doesn’t explain the fact I have gay friends, own the Torchwood series including Miracle Day and loved Bohemian Rhapsody.
Had Rocketman come out a year or two in front of Bohemian Rhapsody I would have given it at least one more star. The rules for a biopic are now well established as are the rules for a Western or insert-genre-here.
