Review – Pain and Gain

Pain and Gain cover

★☆☆☆☆

Pain and Gain is horrible. I generally love Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson. They are usually really good at choosing roles to fit their skills. Nothing but bad choices here.

I mean, I get Pain and Gain is based on a real life act of biblical stupidity. I get that. Being true to the facts locks you into telling the story a certain way, but, after someone read the script they should have realized nobody could make this movie and have it turn out well. An in-depth newspaper article or 5 page short story yes, but a movie, no. It even missed on the comedy mark.

Had this been an Indie film using complete unknowns with an obviously small budget, it might have had a chance. A small chance, definitely, but a chance. When you bring in big name actors with that name comes expectation. I honestly can’t believe either of them opted to accept the roles. No matter how big the paycheck was, it wasn’t big enough.

Do yourself a favor and take a pass on this one.
