This morning I was given time off from helping with harvest because there was nothing for me to do. The remaining soybean fields needed to be harvested straight into a truck to be hauled away as our bin storage was full. While sitting at the keyboard pondering which far behind writing project I was going to work on, a song got stuck in my head. While I don’t own a copy of this song, thankfully, with the Internet, if you only want to hear a song once, you can search and usually find it with a video of some kind.
After a bit of Web searching I landed on lastFM. I have heard of it here and there. Something of an FM radio station for the Internet like so many other music playing services. Like so many other services, you have the option of purchasing an electronic copy of the song you wish to play, but you can also play it. The video someone created to go with this song I found quite touching so I’m including the link here.
What is so striking and touching about the video is that it does what all great artistic theft does, adds a completely new dimension to the meaning and appeal of the original work. Good artists copy, great artists steal. This is definitely a theft which makes humans a better species.
