I have been dog, chicken, rabbit and turtle sitting while my brother and his family are on vacation. They aren’t that far away so keeping the place randomly occupied during the day and spending the night there in case evil doers happen by is not a big thing. Cat litter boxes are bad, but it is nothing compared to a rabbit. I take that back. At their worst, cat litter boxes are a breath of fresh air compared to the best day for a rabbit litter box.

Chickens do not have the common sense God gave little green apples. They don’t even have the greed sense. We’ve been having some nasty storms this past week. With sheep and cattle, when the sky turns black with wind and rain, they head for the barn. If it has been hot they will stay out a little while because the rain feels good, but they do head in when the wind really picks up. Not (&^)(&)ing chickens. Even if they are too close to the ground to feel the wind they have to feel the force of the rain. Nope, wouldn’t go in.

With sheep and cattle, doesn’t matter what time of the day it is, if you want them in the barn, you get a pail of grain and throw it in the feeder. When they hear it hit they come running. If they are too far out in the pasture to hear, step outside and thump the bucket a couple of times letting the closer ones see it, then run like Hell. They will trample you trying to be first to the grain. Not chickens. Couldn’t care less about me filling that hanging feeder they have.

Even with lightning touching down along with all manner of unpleasant stormy conditions, they will __not__ enter a shelter until _they_ decide. Unless you are limber enough to snag their feet while chasing them and toss them one by one into the coup, closing the door behind them, they aren’t going in.

Chickens and politicians are living proof Darwin was wrong.
