Stretch nodded in agreement.
So, first we have to establish our own logistics. Get this car fixed up in case we need it for a while. Ideally, if another of you know of a place we can get a different ride near where we are going, we need to get a second prepped and staged, possibly at the locker we are going to, but, best if it was some place in the Midwest, a state or two over from our assigned destination.”
Any particular reason for the Midwest?” inquired Slim.
Logistics” I responded. “Someone working in logistics or trained in manhunt procedures will expect us to run to a coast to hop a cargo ship. We’ve all been at this too long to trust commercial air and passenger ships are booked months in advance. Most cargo ships have passenger quarters to let for the right price. Accommodations will kind of suck.”
You have seen those videos on-line of cargo crews shooting some of their own in international waters just for fun” Giant interjected.
Yes. I’ve also used cargo ships to get in and out of countries basically undetected. Pay the right amount of money and most of the captains won’t ask what is in your luggage. The really unsavory ones will drool at the size of your luggage believing they can kill you in your sleep since there is no record of you being on board.”
If we do have to leave America it will be such a route, but not one which is handy. If they aren’t already, the company will have people keeping a close eye on the east coast ports. Hell, probably all the way to Mississippi. Nobody would be looking for us in the foreign country known as California. They wouldn’t even think to ring the ports as far as Texas. They would be watching all of the charter flights leaving the country though. We are a long way from that stage though. Thankfully, there are travel sites which specialize in cargo journeys.”
Oh, that reminds me. Once we get our operational funds, besides regular clothes, you three need to get whatever you need for a few mime routines. Makeup, gloves, you know the drill.”
Not that I mind, but why?” queried Stretch.
Cargo travel has become something of an experience industry. The dearly departed HR woman didn’t know about your miming pass time. If we do end up leaving via freighter, they will most likely have other passengers, especially if we use one of the on-line cargo ship travel agencies. I hate to admit it, but that traveling mime troupe story we used back at the bar works out nicely. I just need to read up a bit on talent management and you need to locate several countries with mime events happening.”
Freighters looking to make a fast buck usually have a small bar area for guests. Well, the better freighters, like those which would be hooked up with on-line booking do. You guys can sell the story by doing some miming a night or two.”
Simple enough” stated Slim. “Are you planning on fleeing now?”
Goodness no. I just found the bastard who saddled me with Henry. Sadly I had to pay him back for that favor before I found out why.”
You do realize he probably said that just to piss you off” piped up Giant.

It’s true. He could have just been trying to piss you off and buy some time” offered Slim.
Something makes me want to utter ‘Don’t piss down my back and tell me it’s raining’ but there is probably truth in what you say.”
Don’t piss down my…where the Hell do you come up with these things!” exclaimed Giant.
The Outlaw Jose Wales” answered Slim. “It’s a good movie. I recognized that line as soon as he said it. If we end up hiding out on an Indian reservation, it is the one Western you can put on and be liked.”
I remember that” said Stretch. “The first Western where Indians weren’t the bad guys. They praised the movie and flocked to the theaters.”
So did most Midwesterners who don’t live near any reservation so they don’t have any preformed opinions when it comes to Native Americans. Of course, having Clint Eastwood and being a damn fine movie didn’t hurt its attendance any either.”
Back to the original topic” Slim interrupted. “If you are not planning on running right now why are you telling us all of this?”
The best way to survive in this form of life is to have at least three completely different exit plans all staged before you start the job.”
Logistics” he responded.
Logistics” I replied. “You all haven’t had to do much of that. You haven’t had to find your own transportation. Haven’t had to obtain or make your own weapons. Most likely you haven’t even had to dispose of the bodies.”
Once” spoke up Giant. “We had to dump bodies once.”
Dump?” I cocked an eyebrow at him.
Yeah” sighed Stretch. “It was blown before we booked the flight there. Cleaners were delayed. Job had to be pushed up due to opportunity. Adding insult to injury we couldn’t just leave them where they dropped. Not with any hope of getting out of the country. There is still some debate about the cleaners even finding them after we left.”
They didn’t” I responded.
