Day!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ponder this most coveted ratio:\u00a0 The circumference of a circle\/Diameter.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, nearly everyone knows about ? <span style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;\">and today is Pi day, so it is a good time to wonder&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I wondered how the early mathematicians worked it out so I did a bit of research.<\/p>\n<p>I originally thought they may have first had to accurately measure a circle&#8217;s circumference then divide (pretty<span style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;\"> naive<\/span><span style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;\"> approach).\u00a0 Then thought what if the circle&#8217;s circumference was a whole number &#8211; still the problem of accurately measuring down to the smallest distinct values would be problematic.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Smarter people have attempted to work out ? for over 4000 years.\u00a0 The short article <a href=\"https:\/\/www.exploratorium.edu\/pi\/history-of-pi\">here<\/a> was interesting, but doesn&#8217;t even come close to the pondering what must have taken place throughout the centuries.\u00a0 Until this morning, I never gave the origin of the Euler number a second thought (most scientific calculators have a key for it &#8211; e).\u00a0 Good on you Leonhard Euler for giving us something to help solve complex function problems.<\/p>\n<p>So &#8211; today take a moment and wonder.\u00a0 Wonder what might be different about our modern world without an understanding of ?.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ponder this most coveted ratio:\u00a0 The circumference of a circle\/Diameter.
